The pre-show recap made it a point to have Wes Brisco call out "HAWK HOGIN." Then the Hulkster came out to start the show and made it a point to let everyone know that he was going to choose who'd get to face Jeff Hardy at Lockdown out of judging four matches featuring eight wrestlers. Then Bully Ray lamented the fact that he was letting Hogan down, which led to Brooke Hogan begging her daddy to let Bully get the title shot because he was family. Then Robert Roode and Austin Aries cut a promo on Hogan for screwing them by making them wrestle the week after they won the Tag Titles. Oh, and now Hogan's the one who chose the title match for Lockdown to close the show! But Aces and Eights, the group that gets blown down by a strong breee, interrupted him until they were chased off by Sting and a gimpy Bully Ray!
Did Hogan get the best Kobe Bryant surgery over in Germany that allowed him to walk like something other than an aluminum penguin? No? Then why is he the center of attention? His megalomania never dominated Nitro this bad at his height in the nWo. Hell, not even the forerunner of the active character authority figure, Vince McMahon, had his fingerprints all over a show as bad as Hogan did with Impact tonight.
It's one thing when a wrestler is at the nexus of the show. Even at his worst, there was still the theoretical true outcome of Triple H losing a match against anyone he involved himself with. Hogan can't even do that. He's a borderline cripple who will shatter his skeletal system with the slightest of bumps. There's no reason why he can't wheel himself out once a show or every other show to make an announcement or put a guy over on the mic.
It was all par for the course. The show, while not as boring or lackadaisical as it was last week, still felt like it was tripping over itself. The best part of the show was Magnus cutting his revenge promo on Aces and Eights. Impact really has something with him. He's young, charismatic, athletic, so of course they keep pussyfooting with him. Then they go and let Austin Aries and Robert Roode retread every old heel trick in the book the way they only can before having Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez ruining it. I know there's a feud and story there, and the endgame, watching both guys rush back to the ring to avoid the countout, was amusing. But man, am I tired of Guerrero and Hernandez. Sick and tired. Ugh.
But hey, at least THEY'RE not feuding with Hulk Hogan too.
