What will Summerlyn have in store for New York State? Photo Credit: Joel Loeschman |
First up is Squared Circle Wrestling in upstate New York. They will be running two shows, one tonight in Oswego and one Saturday night in Niagara Falls. The Friday show, Singled Out, has a belltime of 8 PM, and will be taking place at the Oswego Armory, while Saturday's ironically named Heat Wave will start at 6 PM at Cruisers Hockey and Bar in Niagara Falls. Appearing this weekend will be a bevy of the best names in independent wrestling, including Kevin Steen, Masada, the Super Smash Bros., Roderick Strong, Sami Callihan, Christina von Eerie, Colin Delaney, Jessicka Havok, and of course, TWB favorite Rachel Summerlyn. The shows also mark the return of 2CW founding father and ECW legend Spike ma-fuggin' Dudley, whom I say has aged gracefully over the last decade or so. The highlight match of the weekend will most certainly take place Saturday, when Callihan and Summerlyn do battle in what will surely knock out power to low-voltage electrical devices and shake any loose fillings out of people's teeth. That's putting it lightly.
ALSO, if you are at the Saturday show and you want to meet a familiar face, please be sure to say hi to Danielle, who will be there in support of independent wrestling, pink hair, and Rachel Summerlyn.
Just one state over, in the merry land of Massachusetts, Wrestling Is Art will be holding their first two cards after officially debuting at National Pro Wrestling Day. Of all the Wrestling Is... promotions, this one looks to burst strongest out of the gate in terms of match quality. It's one thing to have Colt Cabana, Mike Quackenbush, Drew Gulak, Green Ant, Tim Donst, and AR Fox on the same card, but man, the actual pairings are looking pretty damn sweet if you ask me. Saturday's show at the Haverhill High School in Haverhill, MA, has a belltime of 7PM, and will feature Cabana taking on Donst, Quack battling Jaka, Fox taking on Chuck Taylor, and Sugar Dunkerton wrestling Francis O'Rourke, which could be a dark horse show-stealer. Then, on Sunday, they move to Bridgewater, MA to take over the Knights of Columbus Hall (belltime 3PM) to present Cabana/Green Ant, Quack/Gulak, Fox/Donst, and O'Rourke/assailANT. This is going to be a wrestling match fan's card if there ever was one.
Of course, these aren't the only shows happening over the weekend. Ring of Honor will be invading Cincinnati on Saturday at the Masonic Center at 7:30PM. The main event is an elimination tag pitting Steen, Jimmy Jacobs, and Steve Corino against Davey Richards, Michael Elgin, and Adam Cole. Of course, the match that we'll have our attention on here will be ACH taking on Roderick Strong, interesting for several reasons. Also, in New York's St. Patrick's Gym, Family Wrestling Entertainment will be putting on an iPPV featuring a match between Katerina Waters (Winter/Katie Lea) and Gail Kim, as well as appearances by the Young Bucks, Tommy Dreamer, Carlito (their Champion), Maria Kanellis, and Petey Williams.
Remember, professional wrestling is much larger than what's on your television Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Check out an indie show near you, even if it isn't one of the ones above. But if you are in upstate New York, Massachusetts, New York City, or Cincinnati, what's your excuse not to go to one of these shows with known commodities? DO IT.
