If you’re new, here’s the rundown. We listen to a handful of wrestling podcasts each week. Too many, probably, though certainly not all of them. In the interest of saving you time — in case you have the restraint to skip certain episodes — the plan is to give the bare bones of a given show and let you decide if it’s worth investing the time to hear the whole thing. There are many wrestling podcasts out there, of course, but this feature largely hews to the regular rotation we feel best fit the category of hit or miss. If we can save other folks some time, we’re happy to do so.

Show: Steve Austin Show — Unleashed
Episode: 290
Run Time: 1:22:13
Guest: None

Summary: Austin is back home at 316 Gimmick Street in Los Angeles and flying solo here. He raves about the college football national championship game and the new season of “Broken Skull Challenge” before telling a long story about getting his sick dog home from Texas. After a break, it’s time for listener emails regarding nutrition, Comcast, cologne, displaying antlers on the way home from a hunting trip, Ford Broncos, sleep apnea, WWE camera angles and production techniques and spam email.

Quote of the week:“Goddamit our yard guy showed up, and as soon as that guy walks through the damn gate he’s got the blower going. Now what the fuck is he blowin’? I need the yard mowed, I don’t need it blown. Don’t you blow it after you mow it? But who the fuck am I to tell him his business? I’m just sitting here tryin’ to tell a goddamn award-winning podcast story about my dog and about my headaches, hassles and horseshit trying to get to Los Angeles, and this sumbitch — you know what? Remind me, send me a goddamn email to questions@steveaustinshow.com and remind me to but this sumbitch a goddam muffler for that fuckin’ blower. Better than that, I’mma buy him an electric blower to use when he comes over here. I won’t even charge him for the goddamn electricity. But when you mess up my flow on my podcast, goddamn, I don’t know whether to shit or to wind my watch. On with the story.”

Why you should listen: Austin again is in rare form in the opening segment, detailing a scary medical situation with his oldest dog and a monumentally frustrating travel experience. The expletives fly fast and furious and the dog ends up OK — so far, anyway. Before that it’s a good few minutes for listeners who want to pretend they’re talking sports and tipping a few cold ones with their good buddy Stone Cold. His thoughts about WWE’s production were good but warranted more focus.

Why you should skip it: Regular listeners of the show could probably do as good a job reacting to the football game and realty show as Austin himself. Even the sick dog story comes with a fair degree of predictability. And while he probably feels bad turning in a show that doesn’t reach at least 60 minutes, the listener question segment was almost entirely without merit, unless you really like to hear Austin talking trucks and how wrestlers smell.

Final thoughts: Credit where it’s due - Austin keeps cranking out the episodes regardless of what real life throws in his path. That they aren’t all of similar value is probably to be expected, and given each episode comes at the same low price of free, this isn’t a complaint so much as a reminder to people squeezed for time that other shows probably should rank higher on the priority list.
