The biggest shows of the weekend are contained in a single doubleheader. Women's Superstars Uncensored will anchor the first half of Saturday, while Combat Zone Wrestling will come strong at night. WSU's show is the King and Queen of the Ring Tournament. It will take place at the Flyers Skate Zone in Vorhees, NJ, with the doors opening at 3:30 PM. The tournament is on the marquee, but it will be playing second fiddle, at least to me, to what should be one of the hardest-hitting, most brutal matches of the year. Jessicka Havok will do battle with Sami Callihan in a match that has been on my radar for the last six months. Callihan is STRONGLY rumored to be going to WWE, and the fact that he's in this match before leaving is huge.
The tournament itself ought to be an exciting affair as well. Eight mixed-gender teams will be competing in a single elimination tournament to crown the third-annual King and Queen of the Ring. Here are the teams:
- Neveah and Jake Crist
- AR Fox and Athena
- Kimber Lee and Drew Gulak
- Matt Tremont and Addy Starr
- Ezavel Suena and Latin Dragon
- Pepper Parks and Cherry Bomb
- Christina von Eerie and Masada
- Devon Moore and Mickie Knuckles
At 7:30 PM at the same venue, CZW will run Proving Grounds. IN the main event of that show, Masada defends his CZW World Championship against Crist. However, the match I'm most interested in? "The Wild-Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers heads to the Combat Zone to tackle Greg Excellent. That, on paper, sounds like it could be a hoot. Also on the show, Shane Hollister, Andrew "The Unmasked Chiva Kid" Everett, and Caleb Konley will be in a three-way match, and Havok will go up against Neveah.
By the way? Both shows can be purchased via iPPV.
If you're out in Western Pennsylvania, you can check out Ring of Honor at the Rostraver Ice Garden in Belle Vernon, PA. The show starts at 7:30 PM tomorrow night local time. Kevin Steen will do battle with Rhett Titus in a grudge match, ACH will wrestle Michael Elgin, and Jay Lethal will do battle with Jimmy Jacobs in a no-DQ match. Also appearing will be the Tag Team Champions of Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly.
The other big shows this weekend are happening in the New England area. Wrestling Is Art will run both tomorrow and Sunday, both shows featuring the debut of Shoichi Funaki. Tomorrow, at Haverhill High School in Haverhill, MA, the doors will open at 6:15 PM local to see Funaki take on Green Ant. That show headlines a deep card that features Sugar Dunkerton taking on Jaka, Jigsaw battling Antonio Thomas, and the Estonian Thunder Frog wrestling Kobold. On Sunday, the promotion will be heading into the Varnum Armory in East Greenwich, RI. The doors open at 3:15 PM local, and the card will be headlined by Francis O'Rourke going up against Funaki. Also on the card, AR Fox battles Jaka, Green Ant gets Drew Gulak, and Dunkerton takes on Juan Francisco de Coronado.
East Coast Wrestling Association, the oldest indie in America, hits up the YMCA of Salem County in Somers Point, NJ tomorrow for YMCA V, doors at 6 PM local. Josh Daniels defends his Unified Championship against VsK, while Kekoa the Flyin' Hawaiian has a tall (and wide) order in Apollyon. On the other side of the continent tomorrow, Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling will celebrate their 17th Anniversary Show at the Russian Community Centre in Vancouver, BC. The show starts at 8 PM local, and will be headlined by the Bollywood Boyz going up against ECCW Tag Champions, Scotty Daniels and Jamie Diaz. Nicole Matthews will also be in action, and there'll be several ECCW alumni in attendance.
Finally, as is usually the case in Georgia, there's a whole bunch of wrestling this weekend. Anarchy Wrestling runs the Anarchy Arena in Cornelia, GA, with a bell time of 8 PM Saturday. Shaun Tempers, Mike Posey, Corey Hollis, and the Movement will all be there. Empire Pro Wrestling runs Rossville, GA, also on Saturday, with a bell time of 8:05 PM at the Empire Arena. The show will be headlined by Kyle Matthews challenging Cyrus the Destroyer for his Empire Heavyweight Championship. Finally, Deep Southern Championship Wrestling will be hitting up Rocco's Pub (best chili in Georgia!) in Jasper, GA, on Sunday for Mother's Day Mayhem, bell time of 3 PM local. It ain't a Southern holiday if there ain't no rasslin' going on, and Kyle Matthews will also be on this card, taking on Torque.
Go see some wrestling this weekend, because wrestling is cool and needs your support. Plus, you'll have a bunch of fun, especially out in Vorhees. I'll be at the first half of the doubleheader, so if you see me, say hello! Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.
