Live shot of the Intercontinental Title defense |
If you would like a quickie review of this show, I turn you over to my trusted associate Herschel Krustofsky.
To get more in depth, it was a weird, disjointed show. It seemed to be broadcasting in some sort of end-of-Lostian purgatory where the WWE Universe was off just a few degress centigrade, but enough for those of us who... well, end up doing things like the weekly review for the C (D? G? R?) show.
The Intercontinental defense set up last week and teased ever so slightly Monday night didn't happen. No blindside attack, no vaporous authority figure calling it off--it just didn't happen. I wasn't even that geeked up to watch Sin Cara catch a forearm in the mask, but if you're going to say something is going to happen, that something should probably happen, especially given the small beer you're playing for with an episode of Main Event.
That said, it should be noted it will probably go down as the strangest ending in Main Event's history. Chekov's Ambulance came out and for reasons yet to be elucidated Ryback came out, abducted Heath Slater, and drove off into the shows that actually count. Is he only five steps away from rekindling the yellow-and-black attack to help him succeed where the suddenly mysteriously absent Intercontinental Champion failed in taking out John Cena once and for all? Trust me, as ridiculous as that question is it still made more sense than the obstenibly most evil guy on the roster abducting his former running buddy and biggest joke this side of the phrase "Leno was funny tonight".
The Usos picking up the W over the remaining 2MB got lost in the the night's predominant question as asked by KTC above. Then again, maybe it's not that shocking. Cole's mic died during the show and Miz didn't immediately fill the breach despite it lasting for a couple of minutes. Said Miz praised WWE's handling of his alleged rival Ziggler's concussion given what he'd suffered two WrestleManias ago but thHhen again guess whHhat recap dominated the shHhow by completely refuting thHhat whHhole position?
Hell, Alberto del Rio was pinning somebody (in this case Big E. Langston) with a rollup and winking at the top of the ramp when the match was over. Perhaps this week was underwritten by Sterling Cooper Draper Chough Cutler. If so, here's hoping the multivitamin shot WWE took to make this episode wears off in under 72 hours.
