So, the weekend again is upon us, and what do you know, there's a crapload of wrestling going on around the country. While the most notable show is happening on pay-per-view (one that I'll have a preview up for later on today), it's far from the only one, and odds are, it might not be the best one. I already previewed Beyond Wrestling's We Care a Lot, which happens tonight. If you're in New England, be sure to check that one out. However, as is the case with every weekend in the world, there's probably a cool wrestling show happening near you. IF you don't see one in your area below, then hey, check out Pro Wrestling Events for the skinny. Even if it's just a listing with no description, it's a start at least. Sometimes, you just need to make a leap of faith.
But because a little information is always helpful and handy, here are some of the highlight shows of the next three nights. First off, the spiritual forefather promotion of the entire independent scene will be running a show tonight at the Colgate Gymnasium in Clarksville, IN. IWA Mid-South, Ian Rotten's on-again, off-again house of gore and glory, will be presenting Old Scars and Bad Blood, with a bell time of 7:30 PM local. The main event of the show will pit Sabu against BJ Whitmer. Also scheduled will be a match for the IWA-MS Light Heavyweight Championship as Jimmy Jacobs battles Devon Moore. Other wrestlers scheduled to appear are Jonathan Gresham, Zach Gowen, the Hooligans, Reed Bentley, Chris Hamrick, Scotty Vortekz, and of course, the Rotten Bros. of Axl and Ian.
Prime Wrestling will also present some hard-hittin' Cleveland wrestling action at the Agora tonight. Doors will open at 7 PM, and once you get in, you'll be treated to a main event of a tables match between Prime Champion Krimson and challenger Rickey Shane Page. Also on the show, Johnny Gargano will battle Marion Fontaine, and there will be appearances by Gregory Iron, Marti Belle, Matt Cross, and Bobby Beverly.
As we move into Saturday, we get to the undoubted main event of the weekend, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Is Your Body Ready? The bell rings at 8 PM local at the American Legion Post #308 in sunny Reseda, CA, and the main event will be the last time (for now) that two old rivals will meet in the middle of the ring. Adam Cole and Sami Callihan will end their storied feud the only way appropriate, with sixty minutes of Iron Man action. Other matches on the show include Team Ambition EXPLODING with Davey Richards battling Kyle O'Reilly, the Tag Team Champions the Young Bucks in non-title action against AR Fox and Samuray del Sol, and Kevin Steen wrestling the newly-retired-from-deathmatches Drake Younger.
Up in Canada, Inter Species Wrestling and Capital City Championship Combat will present a doubleheader on Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ottawa. ISW's event, Summer Slamtasia, occupies the first half of the proceedings with things kicking off at 1:30 PM. Izzie Deadyet will defend the ISW Championship against the "Deathmatch Drunkard" Danny Havo in the main event. In what might be the nuttiest match all weekend, Pinkie Sanchez puts his Undisputed King of Crazy title on the line against the borderline sociopathic Chris Dickinson. I would not be surprised if someone legitimately lost a tooth in that match, just because. Also appearing on the show will be Addy Starr, Giant Tiger, Dan Barry, and of course, the Food Fighters of Pasquale the Italian Chef and Bastian Snow.
The second half of the evening belongs to C*4, and they'll have the doors reopened on the venue for their season finale, Crossing the Line 6. "Hacker" Scotty O'Shea defends his C*4 Championship in a triple threat match against "Speedball" Mike Bailey and Josh Alexander. It's one fall to a finish, so things might just get a little crazy, especially during the finishing sequence. The one match that could surpass Dickinson/Sanchez in raw batshit insanity also involves the King of Crazy, as he'll face off against Franky the Mobster. There will be a Tag Team Championship open gauntlet that will include the Super Smash Bros., 3.0, the team of Michael von Payton and Ethan Page, as well as five other teams. Also appearing at the show will be Amasis, Sonjay Dutt, Dickinson, and Cheech Hernandez.
Elizabeth, PA, plays host to International Wrestling Cartel's Super Indy XII. The show happens at the Court Time Sports Center, and will start at 7:00 PM local time. The tournament contains ten wrestlers among the finest in the country. Nine have been announced to date: ACH, Tony Nese (reigning and defending Super Indy Champ), Jimmy Rave, Kyle Matthews, Shane Strickland, Extreme Tiger, Gory, Facade, and Bobby Fish. The tenth spot will go to the winner of a "Last Chance Qualifier" featuring HD Cannon, Mr. 450, Mike Rayne, and Corey Hollis. That lineup of names is just tremendous, and hey, we might get an ACH/Matthews match out of it. Either way, it should be a super-entertaining evening. There will be other matches happening, but they have not been announced yet.
Moving on up to Michigan, we get to Clash Wrestling's Grappolganza at the Taylortown Trade Center in Taylor, MI with a 8 PM bell time on Saturday. The main event will see J. Miller defend his Clash Championship against Ded Vaughn. Gregory Iron will tangle with "GQ" Gavin Quinn, while there'll be a women's tag team match, pitting the team of Xandra Bale and Seleziya Sparx against Leah von Dutch and Jasmine. Also appearing on the card will be "Caveman" Tyler Elkins, Canadian Destroyer, and Zach Gowen.
CWF Mid-Atlantic will emanate from the CWF Sportatorium in Gibsonville, NC with Absolute Justice on Saturday. Doors will open at 7 PM local. Shane Helms will be your host, and he presides over a card that has Arik Royal defending his Mid-Atlantic Championship against Zane Dawson in a street fight on top. Also signed for the show are a "Winner Take All" match for the Ultra J Championship and the Chiva Kid match between Trevor Lee and Andrew Everett Cross and a feature bout between Serena Deeb and Amber O'Neal. Also scheduled to appear will be Matty DeNero and Ric Converse.
New York Wrestling Connection also runs live from the NYWC Sportatorium in Deer Park, NY, tomorrow night with Going the Distance. Doors are at 7 PM local. The Big O will be defending his NYWC Championship, and there will be appearances by Mike Mondo, Mikey Whipwreck, Francis Kipland Stevens, and many more.
Of course, that isn't all the wrestling happening this weekend, but it's a good sampling. Again, check Pro Wrestling Events if you want to see if there's anything going on in your neck of the woods. Remember, wrestling only survives if we all support it.
