Well, it's Friday again, which means that it's time for ALL THE RASSLIN'! While Ring of Honor got the weekend started early yesterday with their Night of Hoopla, the best is still yet to come. I'm going to highlight the shows that I know a little or more about, but if you don't find a show in your area that tickles your fancy, then check out Pro Wrestling Events. They'll have the low-down on what's going on in your neck of the woods.
This weekend's big event takes place tonight down at the Orpheum in Ybor City, FL. SHINE 11 takes place tonight starting at 9PM Eastern. You can watch live on Internet pay-per-view if you can't make it there live. They're going to crown their first ever Champion, and the field for this tournament is stacked. Amazing Kong, Saraya Knight, Ivelisse Velez, Rain, Mercedes Martinez, Jessicka Havok, Mia Yim, Leva Bates, Angelina Love, Santana Garrett, Kimberly, Su Yung, Taylor Made, and Nikki Roxx will all look to take home the top prize. The entire tournament will unfold tonight, live. There will be two qualifying four-way matches, four quarterfinal matches, two semifinals, and one match for the whole magilla. Who will come out on top? If I were a betting man, I'd favor Velez in the whole thing, but with names like Kong, Knight, Havok, and Love in this thing, anyone could win.
Also tonight, Ring of Honor will continue their weekend tour by hitting up Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee, WI. The show starts at 7:30PM local time, and the show will be headlined by a four-corner survival non-title match. Matt Taven, Michael Elgin, Adam Cole, and Jay Lethal will all look to leave the ring with some momentum headed towards the ROH World Championship Tournament. Also on the show, both halves of the Tag Team Champions will be in singles action against one of each of the American Wolves. Bobby Fish draws Davey Richards, while Kyle O'Reilly gets Eddie "Eddie Edwards" Edwards. Also on the show, Athena takes on MsChif, and Kevin Steen will do battle with Silas Young.
Tomorrow night, ROH heads across Lake Michigan to Dearborn, MI, with a 7:30PM local bell time at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The main event will be a "dream" tag match pitting the American Wolves against Elgin and Lethal. ACH will be in singles action against Fish, while their partners, TaDarius Thomas and O'Reilly respectively, will also do battle. Steen will wrestle Taven in non-title action, while MsChif, Tomasso Ciampa, Cole, and BJ Whitmer are also scheduled to appear.
Also tomorrow night, at Turner Rec Center in Kansas City, KS, Metro Pro Wrestling will set up shop for another set of television tapings. The doors open at 6PM local time, and the set will be headlined by two former allies doing battle for the Metro Pro Championship. The challenger, Mark Sterling, will look to end the impressive reign of Jeremy Wyatt, who has spent the last six months fending off challenges from the best the indie world has had to offer. One of those former challengers, Adam Pearce, will be coming back with an announcement of his own as well. The Commission of Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico will defend their Tag Team Championships against Cobra Kai Dojo, Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett as well.
Combat Zone Wrestling will be setting up shop tomorrow night at the Flyers' Skate Zone in Vorhees, NJ for New Heights '13. The show starts at 7:30PM Eastern, and it will be broadcast on iPPV. The main event oughtta be a doozy, as MASADA defends his World Championship against the equally-as-hard-hitting Chris Dickinson. If someone doesn't lose a tooth in that match, it should be considered an upset. Also on the show, BLK-OUT, Blk Jeez and Ruckus, will defend the Tag Championships against Eric Ryan and Dustin Rayz, Tommy Dreamer will go up against Drew Gulak to determine who the next contender to the CZW Title is, Greg Excellent battles Andrew Everett (the former Chiva Kid), and Shane Hollister, AR Fox, Shane Strickland, Biff Busick, Dave Crist, and Caleb Konley are all also scheduled to appear.
We arrive now in the great state of Georgia, as we are wont to do on these posts. First up, Anarchy Wrestling runs at the, duh, Anarchy Arena in Cornelia, GA with a bell time of 8PM local on Saturday. Scott Hall is scheduled to appear with his son to sign autographs. Also appearing on the show will be Corey Hollis, Chip Day, Shaun Tempers, Jagged Edge, and Bobby Moore. Also on Saturday, in Rossville, GA at the Empire Arena, Empire Pro Wrestling will be live with the doors opening at 7PM local time. All seats are $5, and returning to the Empire Arena will be TWB favorite Kyle Matthews. Finally, on Sunday at Rocco's Pub in Jasper, GA, Deep Southern Championship Wrestling will ring the bell at 3PM local time for some southern-fried rasslin' action. Kyle Matthews will be there to defend his AIWF Championship against Cyrus the Destroyer among other matches.
Again, this is only a sampling of what is going on this weekend in the world of wrestling. Check out Pro Wrestling Events if there isn't a show near you, and if all else fails, hey, at least you can get Money in the Bank. But there are hungry promotions out there that need your support as well, and who knows, the random show you pick to go to might end up being your new favorite thing in the world.
