We start out this weekend tonight in Philadelphia at the Vogt Recreation Center (in my old neighborhood!) for Combat Zone Wrestling's Masada Benefit Show. As you may or may not know, Masada has been competing on a bad knee for quite some time now, and he can't afford surgery. Proceeds from this show will help pay for those costs. The show starts at 7PM, and admission is a minimum $10 donation to the Maven Bentley Association, which is going to be covering the cost of said surgery. If you can't make the show, you can still donate by following this link. Two matches have been announced so far. The first is a Fans Pick the Stipulation match between Mike Pancoast and Latin Dragon. You can go here to vote on the stipulation. It's a multiple choice option among a Lumberjack Chop Match, an Audio Cable Strap Match, or my personal favorite, a Mask vs. $100 Donation lucha de apuesta. Also signed will be the Gentleman's Club of Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy, and the Swamp Monster vs. Danny Havoc, Devon Moore, and Lucky 13. While these are the only matches announced, wrestlers who are scheduled to be there include Christina von Eerie, Drew Gulak, Matt Tremont, and of course, the ubiquitous DJ Hyde.
Up in Surrey, BC, Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling will present Climax from Sullivan Hall at 8PM local time tonight. The main event will be a tornado tag match pitting Sid Sylum and Bishop against Artemis Spencer and Tony Baroni. Also on the show, Scotty Mac will be defending his Canadian Championship against the wrestler with the greatest name of all-goddamn-time, Cremator von Slasher. Also appearing will be the Bollywood Boyz, Andy "Dreadful" Bird, and Randy Myers.
At VFW Post 8905 in Cypress, TX, NWA Houston will be presenting Explosion at 7:30PM tonight. The main event is a three-way dance for the NWA Lonestar Championship, as Jax Dane looks to fend off both James Claxton and Byron Wilcott. Also on the show, Scot Summers and Ryan Genesis will defend their NWA Lone Star Tag Championships against Jasper Davis and David "Super" Duperon, and Ricky Starks looks to wrest the Lone Star Jr. Heavyweight Championship from Ray Rowe. Also on the show will be Jack Jameson, Mike Dell, and Rudy Russo.
Moving up to upstate New York, Squared Circle Wrestling presents a double shot of shows this weekend, both of which will feature "Rowdy" Roddy Piper holding court in Piper's Pit. Tonight's show takes place in Watertown, NY at the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena. The doors open at 6PM local time, and when the show starts at 8PM, you will be treated to a main event of Isys Ephex defending his 2CW Championship against Dalton Castle. Jay Freddie makes his return to 2CW after injury by battling Cheech Hernandez, while Piper's son, Colt Toombs, goes to the mat with Slyck Wagner Brown. CK will be defending their Tag Team Championships against the Irish Airborne, while Biff Busick, Colin Delaney, and Jason Axe all are scheduled to make appearances as well.
Saturday, 2CW moves onto Utica, NY at FOD Sports, with a door open time of 5PM. The main event will pit Ephex against Mike Mondo, which if Ephex successfully defends the title tonight will be for the 2CW Championship. If not, then Castle's match against Busick will more than likely be for the strap. If CK are still the Tag Champions, they will defend against the Electric Dream Machine, while if the Irish Airborne win, their match with Kevin Graham and Punisher van Slyke will more than likely be for gold. Also on the show, Toombs takes on Axe.
At the Colgate Auditorium in Clarksville, IN on Saturday, IWA Mid-South will present Simply the Best 9 at 7:30PM local time. The show features Davey Richards going up against Scotty Vortekz in the main event slot, while his Team Ambition cohort, Kyle O'Reilly, will be offered up to the Necro Butcher. Also on the show, Devon Moore and Matt Tremont face off in a Fans Bring the Weapons match, with the only restriction being that you please not bring glass. Jimmy Jacobs teams up with Zach Gowen to take on Trik Davis and Reed Bentley, while BJ Whitmer wrestles Chris Hamrick.
Down in North Cackalacky, CWF Mid-Atlantic will be presenting No Excuses 2013. Doors on the Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium in Gibsonville, NC open at 7PM local time. On top of the card, Arik Royal teams up with Donnie Dollars to take on the team of Jason Miller and Nick Richards. Also appearing on the show will be Trevor Lee, Ric Converse, Matty DeNero, and Mecha Mercenary.
The White Oak Civic Association in White Oak, PA, will play host to International Wrestling Cartel's Proving Ground 2 event. The show will start at 7:30PM. John McChesney will defend his IWC Championship against Jimmy Nutts, while Logan Shulo will do battle with Gory in a grudge match. Also appearing on the show will be Chest Flexor, Super Indy Champion Facade, and so much more.
Moving up to New York City at Studio 48, Kaiju Big Battel will present Brawl in the Family, doors opening at 6PM local time. Dr. Cube has disappeared after being "shot" at WrestleCon, and the power void that has resulted from it will be resolved when #13 battles Hell Monkey for leadership of the Posse. Also scheduled will be Slo Feng trying to regain his mystical hammer against the usurper, Cycloptopuss, while Monger King and Dusto Bunny will see who can go over the top for the Monster Arm Wrestling Championship.
A Saturday in Georgia wouldn't feel right without loads of wrestling going on. Up in Rossville, GA at the Empire Arena, Empire Pro Wrestling will run at 8:05PM local time. Kyle Matthews will return to take on Anthony Henry in what is being billed as a Georgia independent dream match. There's also going to be another War Games matchup between the Devil's Rejects and the Illuminati in two weeks at their landmark Crazy from the Heat event, and this week, each stable will send a tag team into the fray to decide which faction will get the man advantage on August 3. Also appearing on the show will be Shaun Tempers.
Deep Southern Championship Wrestling is live from the DSCW Arena in Blue Ridge, GA Saturday with doors opening at 7PM. There will be two women's matches, an appearance from Cyrus the Destroyer, and a match between MR. Tennessee and Torque. Finally, rounding out the Georgia indie blitz on Saturday, Platinum Championship Wrestling rolls into 2001 Main Street in Porterdale, GA at 6PM local time. Fred Yehi is up 3-0 in his best-of-seven series against "Dynomite Soul" Eric Walker. Can he complete the sweep? Also on the show, Bobby Moore will make an appearance, and they will continue on with their annual Tag Team Season.
Saturday in Easton, Icarus will be at the Palmer Center to do something. What it is isn't entirely clear. Then moving into Sunday, Beyond Wrestling's Americanrana will be looking to melt both faces and cheese (the latter in the form of grilled cheese sandwiches). You can read primers for both here and here, respectively.
However, Providence isn't the only place where the wrestling action sizzles on Sunday. Down in Austin, TX, at the Mohawk, Anarchy Championship Wrestling presents From Innocence to Insanity 7, doors opening at 5:15PM local time. Evan Gelistico will defend his Anarchy Championship against Darin Childs, while Davey Vega will look to out-hardcore Matthew Palmer in his attempt to wrest the World Hardcore Championship away from him. ACH stops by to take on Barrett Brown, while Leva Bates will look to jump to the front of the line of American Joshi Championship contenders, as she takes on former Champ Athena. Jack Jameson and Bolt Brady will challenge The Business of Jojo Bravo and Ricky Romida for the Tag Team Championships in a ladder match as well. Also appearing on the show will be Gary Jay, Scot Summers, Barbi Hayden, and Pierre Abernathy.
Deptford, NJ, will play host to Wrestling Is Cool's furthest foray east yet. They'll be invading the Proving Grounds with a door-open time of 2:30PM, and so will I! If you see me there, say hello, or don't. I'm not the boss of you. Just don't hurl feces at me. It's a family show, and headlining said family show, Eddie Kingston will clash with Eric Corvis. Also on the bill, Amasis will do battle with Chuck Taylor, Frightmare will go head to head with Juan Francisco de Coronado, and the Estonian Thunder Frog will do his best to try and knock Orbit Adventure Ant back into space with his mighty hammer.
Finally, we move back down into the Peach State for Rampage Pro Wrestling's Sizzlin' Summer Bash at Johnny G's Fun Center in Warner-Robins, GA. Doors open at 2:30PM local time. On top of the show, the man himself, Dr. John Gayton will be the guest referee for a loser-leaves-town triple threat match for the Rampage Pro Championship. Micah Taylor will defend against both Bobby Moore and former Champ AJ Steele. The man who takes the fall leaves the company. Also on the show, the red-hot feud between Mike Cruz and Kyle Matthews comes to a head as Matthews gets one more shot at Cruz's Television Championship. Also wrestling on this show will be Kory Chavis, Murder-One, Francisco Ciatso, and Nigel Sherrod.
This weekend is jam-packed with awesome wrestling action. If you can't make it to any one of those venues but still want to go to a show in your area, check out Pro Wrestling Events. Just because I'm not writing about it doesn't mean it might not be worth your time. Remember, your favorite promotion may be one that you haven't seen yet. Take a risk and help expand the art of wrestling.
