THE CHAMP WILL BE IN THE BUILDING 9/20
— Jay Briscoe (@jaybriscoe84) September 4, 2013
Yep, Jay Briscoe, who walked out of Ring of Honor as World Champion a few months ago, will be at Death by Dishonor XI, presumably to make his return to the company. Coincidentally, the company will hold the semifinals and finals of their World Championship tournament at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in the far, far, FAR northeastern part of the city of Philadelphia on September 20. Basically, ROH put the title on a guy they knew was a risk to walk out of the company, ran a tournament, only to have him come back the day they made the new Champion. I don't know if that sequence of events marks WCW-levels of organizational incompetence or some subtly and secretly brilliant worked-shoot-style booking. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the latter.
Anyway, for as disappointed as I am in Briscoe, the person, I am excited to see him, the character, return to ROH. Whether accidental or on purpose, ROH has a hell of a story going for them in the aftermath of the show. For posterity, Kevin Steen, Tommaso Ciampa, Michael Elgin, and Adam Cole are your semifinalists, and I think Briscoe would work well with three of the four. The fourth, Elgin, might not tickle my fancy, but he's pretty over with the ROH crowd.
