Twenty years ago today, at the Nutter Center in Dayton, OH, the then-WWF first put their King of the Ring tournament on pay-per-view. It was notable as the last televised appearance by Hulk Hogan for the company for nearly a decade. He was felled by an exploding camera and Yokozuna. It was also notable for Bret Hart winning the tournament with two barnburners of matches against Mr. Perfect in the semifinals and Bam Bam Bigelow in the finals. Of course, he never got to enjoy his crown. Jerry Lawler waylaid him in the coronation ceremony. Ah yes, the grand tradition of trophies and other baubles being destroyed is a grand one in wrestling. It was upheld strongly here.
