Oh no, Sunny, no Photo Credit: WWE.com |
Apparently, Sytch is offering fans the opportunity to spoon with her for a price. When I first heard of it, I was completely and totally repulsed. Yeah, I had a crush on Sunny back in the day, but the creep factor involved with paying money to lay in bed with someone with a photo op involved just feels skeevy and creepy. It's certainly one step up from prostitution, actually.
Now, I don't have the legal aversion to prostitution that some might have. I think it should totally be legal, although not in the oppressive and exploitative "pimp-ho" construct where it currently exists on the black market. While Sytch is not offering "favors" here, she certainly is continuing ahead in an entrepreneurial manner, at least seemingly. I'm sure she has managers involved and such, but it feels like she's forging ahead on her own. It's her body, and she can do what she wants with it.
Here's the thing; just because I don't think prostitution should be illegal doesn't mean that I think it's something I'd participate in or even think wasn't absurdly creepy. Much in that same vein, Sytch's willingness to go right to the doorstep of physical intimacy for profit with mostly desperate wrestling fans makes my skin crawl for all parties involved. I don't want to generalize here because I'm almost positive that she'll get some business from folks who will pose with her in bed ironically. Even then, isn't there some other way to make fun of societal norms or dumb stuff that people do than participating in this kind of stunt? But I can't think of any other situation where someone hops in bed to spoon with Sytch and it not feel like that person has a warped sense of sexuality or attitudes towards women.
Obviously, Sytch isn't doing this for kicks. I don't think anyone in sound mind would allow themselves in a situation where they would need security present to make sure the paying customers don't act on desires to get more than just a cuddle and a picture if they weren't in dire financial straits. There are plenty of other ways that people can give her money than by letting her exploit their desires to exploit her sexually. I don't know if any of you readers out there are in this camp; it feels like most of the people who would partake in this aren't the type that I interact with on social media (and I thank the based God for that). Then again, I know very few of you personally.
So, if you are the kind of person who'd take Sytch up on this offer, take this advice to heart. There are other ways you can support Sytch financially without participating in this kind of gross activity. Buy 8x10 pics or her shoot videos. Patronize wrestling shows where she's scheduled to appear. Hell, just see if you can PayPal her money directly. But by giving her money for the express purpose of what she's offering in this instance demeans everyone. It demeans you the fan. It demeans wrestling fans in general, because let's face it, we don't have the best reputation in society to start with.
Most importantly, it reinforces the misogynist idea that a woman's only worth in wrestling is to titillate and provide sex appeal. All Tammy Lynn Sytch has ever known as a wrestling personality is to shake her assets and make people, men or women, buy into wanting her body more than anything else. Getting a picture while spooning with her only drives that brainwashed mindset even further into the ground. She needs to be broken of thinking that way, but the only way she can is through an intervention. That intervention needs to come from us, the fans, by not buying what she's selling.
We all have fantasies. They're normal and healthy, but when it can be attained for a bargain basement price (and even if she was catering only to rich people for four-to-five figures a pop, it's still bargain basement as human worth is priceless), it isn't worth having anymore. If you don't agree with a single word I said, that's fine I suppose. But I think you also need to be prepared to live with being called sleazy and creepy. It's not a good look, not for you, not for Sunny, not for anyone.
